Join coaches Justen Sjong (Sensei) and Becca Droz (Padawan) on a 4-week journey towards Conscious Climbing. Weekly themes and daily rituals will support you in gaining greater awareness on the wall and fostering meaningful connections with others in the community.

Justen Sjong has been my mentor and friend since 2017. He has mind blowing climbing accomplishments behind him including the first free ascent (FFA) of Magic Mushroom, a 5.14 route on El Capitan. He’s still sending 5.13+ in his early 50s! My growth as a climber has been greatly expedited by Justen’s keen eye. They don’t call him the Climbing Sensei for nothing!

The beauty of this unique friendship is that Justen also learns from me. Thus we have wondered, “When does Padawan become Sensei?”

This course calls on all of us to be both Padawan and Sensei, to be students and trust in our own wisdom.

In this course, you will gain greater awareness of yourself as a climber and practice subtle, yet strong techniques to call you back to presence.

  • ABILITY | Top Rope and/or Lead Climbers are welcome, and this workshop is perfect for climbers in the 5.10+ to 5.12+ range.  Focus is on Rope Climbing.

Daily Flow of the Workshop

  1. Park & Settle In —> Yes, parking is a crux so allow 10 minutes

  2. Warm Up —> Allow enough time to engage your body.

  3. Classroom —> 30 minute presentation on the daily topics

  4. Climbing Practice —> 80 minutes of practice time.

  5. Closing Thoughts —> 10 minutes to connect about the day in a group.

  6. Email —> Follow up email with some notes on the topics and your suggested practice homework for the week.
